#OscarTransport: Transport Day: Bobtail Oscar (Rescued from Animal Control!) is Going to Texas

Guess what today is? It's the first day of the rest of Oscar's forever life!

Cutie patootie Oscar was a favorite at our local animal control, but no one seemed to want to adopt him... Until Cutehead Paige W. -- all the way in Texas! -- took one look at his pouty, expressive face and just knew he belonged with her.

And the rest, as they say, is history!

Oscar's shelter photo. We had to turn that sad face to a happy one!
Now, four weeks later, we have a wonderful lineup of Cutehead drivers all set to help Oscar get from South Florida to Texas, and it all kicks off this morning! I even get to be his first driver!

Oscar is a very special cat. He has no tail, but we didn't know that until we got him out of the shelter and over to his foster daddy, Kyle S. His shelter photo didn't show his little butt, so it was a total surprise and made him even cuter!

Look at his cute butt!
Oscar is also a little chunker with short legs. He's compact, we're saying. And very cute!

He is also a bit of a character. Oscar may even be a little bit of a diva. You see, he wasn't eating on his own until recently. His foster daddy was syringe feeding him, and we all thought Oscar was a big faker. But after it had been over a week, Oscar went to the vet to find out for real.

The cone of shame! Oh, the indignity.
Turns out that poor Oscar had a toothache. So he got that tooth out and a full dental cleaning, and we thought he'd be good to go! And he even ate some cat food right after his tooth pulling! (I guess the pain drugs gave him the munchies.)

But the next day he was right back to not eating. Until someone decided to try dog food... And guess what? He devoured it!

What?
So now we have a cat who will only eat dog food. I told you he was a character! We're sure he'll like cat food -- he just hasn't found one that quite fit his palate yet. Typical cat!

Tremendous Thank You!
Oscar is safe and headed home thanks to some amazing work by many amazing people. We couldn't do any of it without our super partner in rescue, Stacey of Good Karma Pet Rescue of South Florida for helping get him out of the shelter and all vetted and ready. Our fabulous fosters Kyle S. for putting up with Oscar and taking such good care of him!

And huge thanks to all our Cutehead drivers! YOU all make this possible. Trish W., Janice B., Dana K., Dusti M., Cheri H., Tammy K., Vivian P., and Laura P.! Super huge thanks to Jan L. who is hosting a sleepover for Oscar tonight at her house!

And the biggest thanks of all to the Oscar's new mom, Paige W., who is the real reason Oscar is safe and on his way to the happiest life ever today!

Oh hai. Won't you cheer me on?

  8. He will need supplements to get the nutrients he needs as a cat (even though he may THINK he is a cute bobtail dog!). Especially taurine - lack of it will affect his eyesight. But in the short term, getting him eating is a GOOD thing! Yay for cute Oscar and his forever life!
