Cat Battles Washing Machine

Man, those washing machines are menacing. The shirts and shorts inside just spin and spin, teasing kitty from behind that protective glass door.

No matter how hard she tries, she just can't catch the clothes! But every single time it turns on, she still gives it her best...

NOTE FROM CUTE: Thanks for all the support and likes on the Save Loews Cats Facebook page I started! They did trap one cat yesterday, a tabby named Abbie. She was bailed out of animal control by the TNR group that helped her originally last summer. She is safe, but there are 15 more out there that will need a place to go when they are eventually trapped. Sad!

Happy Dog Welcomes Soldier Home!

Chuck is just about the happiest dog you'll ever see. His daddy just came home from being deployed for eight months, and this video is the moment they're reunited.

Chuck is so excited that he can't even be still enough for his daddy to hug him. Now that's what I call a happy dance!

NOTE FROM CUTE: If you recall the story of the feral cats on the Loews Hotels property in Orlando, there is a sad update. Loews decided yesterday to trap all the cats and send them to animal services -- and we all know what happens to feral cats there. I created a page on Facebook called "Save Loews Cats" where we're sharing all the latest info. Please like it to show support. I'm hoping if we get tons of likes, the media and news will pick up on it! Thank you! Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/SaveLoewsCats

P.S. I hope that doesn't ruin the super happy of the doggie video. Go back and watch it again if you feel bummed. Smiling is important! :)

Man Rescues Cat Stuck in a Tree for Four Days

After a bad flood, a man noticed a poor cat stuck way at the top of a tree. He kept an eye on her, but she didn't come down. He tried to climb the tree once to help her, unsuccessfully, and had to think of a Plan B to help this kitty.

After four days of being stuck up there in bad weather, the man had his plan and was ready to put it in motion -- and he filmed the whole rescue!

My heart is truly warmed by this. There ARE nice people in the world! And after saving the scared and hungry cat, he kept her safe in his home with his other rescue kitty (and he's looking for permanent homes for them if anyone is interested!).

Watch the amazing rescue here:

Baby Squirrel Nibbling on Apple Earphones

When it comes to headphones, apparently Apple ones are quite the delicacy. How do we know? Because this baby squirrel says so.

I can vouch for the sound quality (pretty decent) and the function (yay for being able to talk on your phone with them) myself, but I have never tried to test them out for taste before. Maybe next time I'm a little noshy and looking for a quick snack...

BONUS CUTE: Petting a baby squirrel! (Trust me, you must watch this one.)

Thanks to Cute's friend Lauren of Daily Dog Scoop for sharing this adorable baby squirrel eating Apple earphones video!

Two Cats Tuesday: Why Moo Has a Shaved Spot Now

Happy Two Cats Tuesday, Cuteheads! Today Moo wants to talk why he had to get a big patch of his fur shaved off on the side of this thigh yesterday. He also wants you to know that we just found out that his skin has cow spots, too... Not just his furs!

The night before last when it was time to go to bed, I scooped Moo up like I always do. "You ready for bed, Moo Moo?" I always ask. He's always ready, of course.

Anywhos, when I picked him up, I felt something kind of solid under him. It felt like maybe a milk cap or something weird was stuck to him. So I flipped him over and took a look -- he had a big tuft of fur that was kind of all stuck together. And it was hard.

What in the world did he do? He doesn't get these chunks of hair like some long-haired kitties do. It was like he got into something. I searched the whole house, but I couldn't think of anything. We tried to brush it out, but that was useless. It was solid and clumped all the way to his skin basically.

So, first thing in the morning, I called the V-E-T to see if we could have them shave it off. (I also didn't trust myself holding both him and scissors.) It wasn't hurting him at all and he didn't seem to care about it, but I didn't want it to get any worse and stick more hair and pull at his skin.

So I packed Moo up in his carrier...

Oh hai. I'm the co-pilot. Always buckle up for safety, too!

Mom, you got your seat belt on too, right?

I did, of course. And off we went! When we got there, they took him in the back to shave his little spot.

This is my bald spot. You can see that even my skin is cow-spotted!

The vet came back with the clump they'd taken off and told me she thought maybe it was wax. Wax? Yup, because it smelled good.

Here's where I feel like a horrible mommy. I do have Yankee Candle tart warmers that I use all the time. They are safer than candles, I think, because there is no exposed open flame and you can't ever "forget" to blow them out -- it only burns as long as the little tea light will go, so no accidentally leaving candles lit when you leave or overnight. I thought I was keeping them far away and high enough and in areas the boys never go... but apparently Moo must have swiped one and got some of the wax on his thigh furs.

I have no idea how he even got near it! I never burn them when I'm not around, and certainly nowhere where he would go -- but the vet was right, it did kind of smell like the "Pink Blush" that is currently my favorite scent. Poor Moo!

Good thing, though: He was not hurt and isn't hurting. She shaved off the little clump of hair and now he has a bald spot that will grow back just fine. And I'll be even more careful about where I put things like that -- like in a place where there's no way in the world that boy could go near it.

Lesson learned, and I'm glad he's OK! Everyone please be extra-careful with things like this around kitties. I thought I was being safe by using tarts instead of candles, and we even still had a little issue.

In the meantime, Moo is not the least bit phased by his spot. He keeps licking it, but other than that, he could care less and he doesn't feel a difference.

P.S. Did you see my post on Catster yesterday? It's about how Pimp got me evicted a long time ago! Read it here.

Watch This Bottle-Fed Kitten Grow Up

Watch as this tiny kitten grows from not even a handful of fuzz, to a strong, playful, wide-eyed cow-kitty over the course of two months.

As a baby, this little one had heart problems (at least that's what I gather from reading the comments), but the person caring for him loved him, fed him, cared so wonderfully for him -- and now it seems he's better.

The video is 4:30 long, but when it was over, I couldn't believe I'd been watching that long! Just mesmerizing watching this baby grow. Keep an eye out for the frizzy fuzz at 2:05... squee!

Silly Kitty, You Can't Bite the Water!

Everyone knows sink faucets are like drinking fountains to cats. That stream of water is just too irresistible! But some kitties get the hang of it quicker than others.

The first thing to learn is that you have to lap up, or drink, the water. Biting and chewing it won't really do the job. Neither will trying to paw it into submission.

I hope this fluffy thing finally got the hang of it!
