Three Cats Thursday: Pimp's Health, Moo's Moo-ness and Phantom's Mission to Destroy the World

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it?! I want to give you all an update on the boys! The excitement never ends around here, for sure.

Pimp

Pimpy is doing amazing. He is such a wise old man, and his daily routine makes me smile every single day. We brush my teeth together, he yells at me from the bathroom counter for water, he sleeps in the same spot right next to me every night, and jumps on the bed 2.5 seconds after I get in, just like clockwork.

Plus, seriously... look at that face!

Pimp is 15 years old, you know, and he gave me quite a scare a few months ago. I honestly thought I was going to lose him. He had been slowing down a little bit, I had noticed, but he was still eating and doing all his regular routine, so I just chalked it up to his old-manness. He had found a new sleeping spot in the closet kind of tucked away a little, but again, I thought he'd just found a quiet new old-man spot away from the rugrats.

But one night he didn't really eat much dinner, just picked at it. And the next morning he didn't want breakfast, at all. Which is odd, because he screams at me from the kitchen floor every single morning (with his old man raspy meow) for his breakfast, and then practically gallops over to where I set his bowl down. But one meal is just one meal, and it's possible he had eaten all the dry food during the night (I always leave some out so that he can eat whenever he wants since he's so scrawny).

I told myself I'd see how he was in the evening, and decide whether we were going to the vet based on that. So when I got home from work, it was time for dinner and he did not want it at all. Nothing. He didn't even get up to go to the kitchen for it like he normally does, and he was just seeming pretty lethargic. I told myself I was taking him to the vet the next day, for sure.

But then, in the next few hours, he just started to go really downhill. He was in his closet fort, and not wanting to come out. His eyes started to look a little glazed, and I could tell he was just not right. I sat there watching him like a hawk to see if it was something that warranted the emergency vet probably more than an hour. And I had no idea what to do. I didn't want to not take him if he needed it, but I also didn't want to put him through that stress if he didn't (not to mention the money, which is not the important thing here, of course).

It was just me, and I really wanted someone else there, and someone else to help me decide and give an opinion, so I called my ex-boyfriend over, who used to live with us so he knows Pimp inside and out too. He was super nice and came right over, and we sat and watched him for another couple hours. If he was just going to stay the same, the morning would be fine. And honestly, if it was going to be his time, I was worried that the decision I was making was whether he was going to go peacefully at home and comfortable, or over-stressed out and hooked up to things at the vet (the last time I took him to the vet, the car ride home actually really worried me and he seemed really, really stressed).

But after a couple hours, he started to get worse fast. I'd kind of get him out of his fort to check on him, and he'd walk right back -- but he started being off balance and stumbling to the side and almost falling over walking. When I saw that, I immediately said "THAT'S IT! We're going to the ER right this second!"

Turns out his temperature was super low -- like 93.7, I think -- and he was very dehydrated. There may have been other things, but the ER's mission was to try to bring him back to normal, and then our regular vet could do any other tests he wanted the next day. But honestly, we were all very worried about him.

Luckily, $2,000 later, I picked him up in the morning (so relieved that I hadn't gotten "the call" overnight!), and he was a totally different cat! He was definitely still not 100% by far, but he was Pimp again and meowing and poking his nose out of the carrier! I swear they saved his life.

After that, we went to our vet and he got a slew of tests and medicine and was kept hospitalized that day and on fluids. Turns out he had a bad UTI and a kidney infection. I felt horrible! He hadn't shown any signs of having all that wrong, and I felt terrible. But the good news is that it was all fixable, and while he wasn't totally out of the dark, we had a plan.

Fast forward to today and probably $4,000 later... HE IS AWESOME! And he sleeps next to me in his spot, yells for water on the bathroom counters, raspy screams at me for breakfast and doesn't sleep in the closet hidey spot anymore!

If you remember, he is hyperthyroid, and we'd been managing it with the Hill's prescription y/d food. That had worked great for years, but he didn't seem to be responding to it as well lately (plus, I wanted to be able to feed him way more delicious food!), so we switch the daily pills instead. I hide them in treats and anything else I can think of to get him to take them (he will NOT be pilled), and he seems to be doing great.

So, that was a way longer story than I'd thought it was going to be, but it has a good ending so it was worth it! :)

Other updates: He has a new bed he loves that self-heats, he's eating super expensive food that he loves, he has a new water fountain that he's not too fond of even though it cost me quite a pretty penny, and I basically spoil the crap out of him and indulge his every whim. Because he deserves it!

Moo

Moo is my sweet boy and my cuddlebug. He is so precious and he loves his mommy so much. Every chance he gets, he wants to be picked up and rub his head in my neck and push back on my hand when I scratch the back of his neck... so much so that I can't believe he isn't worried about falling out of my arms (although I'd never drop him!).

He is also just not nearly as smart as Pimp, bless his heart. He kind of reminds me of a cross between a dumb jock and a teddy bear, just so happy in his world and oblivious to the fact that others are just a little sharper than he is. Haha.

He won't eat treats until Pimp eats one first and shows him how (every time). He just kind of looks like he's not sure what's going on sometimes (in a cute way) and just blindly comes whenever I call him, does whatever I ask him to do, is so well-behaved and mild-mannered and precious... I just love this cat!

Other updates: He's on an eternal diet because he really has lived up to his name. I've also been working to get him off dry food entirely.

One other super important update: The #notbox is still around! I think it will be TWO years old in May! Can you imagine?! He still sits in it and plays with it every single day!

Phantom

Oh, Phantom. Where to even begin here? This cat is probably one of the goofiest, silliest, most annoying, smartest, manipulative, adorable, loving cat I've ever met (and I've met a lot of cats!). He is also the biggest pain in the butt, and my life consists of trying to figure out how to live in peace with this toddler of a cat who is truly in his terrible twos (that I love more than anything in the world!).

This is a day in the life of Phantom (kittens, cover your ears!): 1. Sh*tting, 2. Not doing sh*t, 3. Knocking sh*! off counters, 4. Annoying the sh*t out of me. I'm sure many of you know some similiar kitties... Haha.

He looks at me, and while I'm watching him and telling him no, he unapologetically knocks whatever he was poised to knock off the counter right off. To get my attention (ALL. THE. TIME.), he just wreaks havoc on anything that is not tied down, or chews up the corner of any piece of paper or book that is gnawable. Then when I say no and go over to see what in the world he just knocked over or did, he looks at me with complete innocence, does his chirpy meow, and literally skips over to his Da Bird toy (most favorite thing ever!) and paws at it like I'm going play with him then. He's nuts! I don't know why he thinks I'm going to reward him for doing bad things. :) But it is adorable.

He also gives Pimp a run for his money sometimes, keeping him young by chasing him around the house, and gives Moo some much-needed exercise by doing the same to him. Basically, I understand how people collect more and more cats... I think getting him a kitten to play with would solve all our problems, but we're not even going to entertain the impassibility of a #4, OK!?

And so that's us!

I'd love to hear how your kitties are doing! I know a lot of them, and I'd like to "meet" the rest of them!

Let's share with each other about our babies in the comments today! :)

Pimp, Moo and Phantom's Halloween Costumes!

Happy Halloween! As with every holiday (much to these kitties joy!), everyone dressed up! And this was Phantom's first Halloween, so that made it even more special.

I had my doubts about whether I could get them to all sit still together long enough for a group picture, but I did it! And not only that... but there's video also!

Seriously. I can't handle it. They are so darn cute!

Let's talk about Pimp first... He is some sort of dragon. I know this because it has wings, but the puffball threw me off a little. Either way, we all know the best part of a kitty costume is the head piece!

As usual, I am thrilled.
I am a mighty (scrawny) dragon!

Then Moo. Moo is a pumpkin because it fits his rotund figure quite nicely. He is the only one who had trouble getting the velcro to fasten underneath his belly... He's clearly been gaining weight for this role as a pumpkin for quite a while now.

I am so dapper in anything I wear, am I not?

And Phantom... This was his first Halloween, and his first time dressing up (that I know of, at least. I have no idea what his former "family" did with him).

And he was such a good sport! He didn't particularly want to wear it, but he put on a good show for his momma and for the camera and played along well. He was a devil! Because, honestly, he hardly even had to dress up. ;)

This is my sweet face. I'm not fooling mom, though. Am I fooling you?
And now for the grand finale... VIDEO!

It was all I could do to not explode laughing while filming this. These boys are just so funny sitting there. Priceless. Just priceless.

Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope you have a day full of treats and goodies!

Three Cats Thursday: An Update on Pimp, Moo and Phantom!

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! Whew, it's been a while, hasn't it? The boys keep telling me I need to get back at it so they can share their pictures with you all!

I wanted to pop in and update you on everyone. We're all doing great!

PIMP

Pimp is doing a great job of relaxing around the house and being a sweet old man. He had a vet visit a couple weeks ago, and the doctor said that he's a "healthy hyperthyroid cat" -- so we'll take that as a positive!

He weighs 8 pounds still, so he's maintaining his weight (good!) and everything else is doing great as well! He's going to live forever, I always tell him.

MOO

Oh, Moo. He's really living up to his name. I think he weighed 12.8 pounds at his vet visit last week, and aside from needed to lose a couple of those, he got a clean bill of health also!

Moo has been spending all his time in his not-box still (yes, that thing is still around... and it's almost a year and a half old now!) and other various boxes that I order him online that just so happen to have stuff inside them for me. I take that junk out right away though so he can have his box!

PHANTOM

Phantom is such a special cat, you guys. He is amazing. He has so much personality it's ridiculous.

He doesn't stop talking, he follows me around the house, he does the craziest things to get attention (like use his paw to lift a mirror away from a wall and then let it slam back so it makes an atrocious thud... over and over and over again until I pay attention to him) and is just such a goofball.

He is also a diva lately, and changes his mind about his favorite food or foods he won't eat every week. Last week he decided he LOVED this one weight-control canned food and so I went out and stocked up (finally, something he loves!), and two days later he'd rather starve than eat it. Unreal. I always tell him he's the most expensive shelter cat ever. ;)

And ME!

And I'm doing great too! I got the boys' Halloween costumes all lined up, so I'll share pictures of those next week after we do a photo shoot! It's Phantom's first Halloween and holiday season... He has no idea what's coming as far as the dressing-up goes. ;)

Hope all of you are doing fabulous! Have anything fun to report? Share share share!

Three Cats Thursday: Pimp's #Selfie and Moo and Phantom's Cute Snuggle

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! Whew, it seems like it's been forever since we've done one of these, doesn't it? So let's get to it!

Today Pimp got with the trend and let me take a selfie with him, and Moo and Phantom want to show you how in love with each other they are. They are BFF for real!

We'll get to those lovebirds in a minute, but first, let Pimp take a selfie!

Moooommmmm! I'm not so sure about this selfie stuff...
Don't you just love his face. He takes his pictures so serious. And he's always so expressive!

Psst... Don't tell him I told you, but Pimp is going to be 15 years old next Friday on the 4th of July! Fifteen years young, I mean. :)

Now let's get on to the crazy whippersnappers.

Moo and Phantom love love love each other. I think one of the best things ever for Moo was us deciding to keep Phantom because now he has a play buddy and a friend who likes to be licked and loved, and does the same back. Pimp wants nothing to do with any of that shenanigans.

These two are always sleeping or cuddled close like this. Not curled up in a ball together, but just touching.

We are all tangled up in love!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Three Cats Thursday: Pimp, Moo, Phantom... and a Baby Lamb!

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! I wanted to catch you all up on what we've been up to since I haven't posted in a little while -- and show you the cutest baby lamb I got to meet!

First, a few of you have emailed me just checking in to see how we were doing since I haven't posted. You are all so sweet! We are all doing great. I just got back from a little vacation to North Carolina and feel fabulous. The boys did pretty good at home while I was gone. A friend of mine watched them, but obviously they missed their mommy. I'm glad to be back!

Now, on to the Cute!

Last week, Phantom tried to be a daredevil... and then didn't know how to get out of the situation he got himself in. He somehow jumped up on top of the shower stall!

Uh oh. Now what?
Moooommmm... Come get me, OK?
I heard some kind of noise as I was brushing my teeth and then looked back and there he was. He was basically tight-rope walking up there, and I had to reach up and grab him. He hugged me so tight on the way down! I bet he doesn't try to pull that stunt anymore.

Now let's get some Pimp and Moo in here...

Look how cute they were snuggling (this is as close as they snuggle, you guys!). This particular cat bed is hot property. They all use it, and it's like first come, first served. Someone is always on it!

I let Pimp have the bed today because he an old man, and elderly first!
And next... let's talk about this baby lamb! Oh my goodness, he was the highlight of my vacation!

I went to my parent's house near Asheville, NC, and we visited the Biltmore Estate. A friend of mine works there (you might remember George Ricci from the Save Loews Cats mission a couple years ago!), and so he was able to get us to where no one else can really go.

We visited the sheep barn on the property and got to meet so many cuties! I'll post more about them later -- one was a cat, of course! -- but I wanted to show you this cute baby lamb!

One of the farmers brought out this adorable one-day-old baby lamb for us! I thought he was just bringing him out to show us, but when he started to hand him over to me, I am pretty sure my mouth dropped. I got so excited!

And so this was me for the next five minutes... Happy happy happy!

Ah! He was the size of a cat. And so cute. And he baaaaaaaaed so loud! I couldn't stop kissing him.
I wanted to take him home!
Could you just die?! He was so cute! He was the runt of the litter, and so they took him to bottle feed him since his mom was rejecting him. Who would reject such an adorable nugget? He even had his umbilical cord still attached. So cute!

Thanks for keeping checking in on us, everyone! I will do my best to post more. I love sharing with you all!

Three Cats Thursday: Phantom's Nose, Moo's Wake-Up Tactic and Pimp Wants Pot Roast

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! Today the boys wanted to give you a little bit of a buffet of kitty cuteness. Just some random stuff they did this week!

First up, Moo wanted to show you how he wakes me up every morning. The pictures are not the best since it is dark (he wakes up early!), but I just think they are super cute because it's really what we do every morning! He is such a love bug.

First I give mom's nose the side head rub.
The the front head butt.
And then back to the side head rub. Now she's gets up and feeds me!
And then Phantom wants you to smooch his adorable black nose!

You can't decide whether to smooch or boop me, right?
And last, but definitely not least (no one puts Pimpy in the corner!), Pimp wants to show you how serious he is about wanting some of my dinner all the time. This is his "Give me some of your pot roast" face. He means business.

Pot roast, I'm watching you.

Three Cats Thursday: Moo and Phantom Love Each Other and Pimp Doesn't Care

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! It's a miracle, I tell you. Moo and Phantom love each other.

It's not like the cuddle up in a tight ball and sleep together all the time, but it's a loving tolerance -- and it's super cute to catch when it happens!

A couple days ago, I came home to this:

Why yes, we are snuggling.
I think that's the first time I've actually caught them in a sleepy snuggle! And so I had to zoom in to get a closer picture. I was really hoping I wouldn't ruin it! They both usually start walking to the camera when they see it.

I knew that cow cat would love me eventually!
Isn't that just so sweet? It wasn't that long ago, it seems, that I had to lock them in their own rooms when I went to work because I was afraid of leaving them out together all day! Whoooo hooo!

And then, another day this week, I caught them doing this. (They do this more often. They love to lick each other!)

They are such lover boys!

And meanwhile, Pimp is all like...

I'll just take care of myself.
And then later, after all of this peace and harmony wears off, we're back to normal...

KITTY WRESTLEMANIA!
P.S. Make sure you all come back tomorrow... I have 22 tiny kittens and a sweet momma cat for you to meet! (Yes, 23 cats!)

Three Cats Thursday: Almost Touching, Phantom's Tail Update and the Poop Scoop!

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! We have some catching up to do!

First, check this out. Shhhh... No one tell them they are almost all touching! What an amazing site (coerced by the lure of delicious canned food, of course).

Pimp and Moo always eat there. I moved Phantom's plate over to join them because he kept trying to eat Pimp's food. So I just gave him more of his own. Piggy.

And now the update on Phantom's tail and the fur loss. Turns out that, like many of you suggested, he is allergic to fleas. So he got some antibiotics to get rid of the mild infection that was on his bare skin and we ordered Comfortis for the house to take care of the fleas. It's supposed to be the best. We used Revolution before, but I think our fleas are wearing gas masks and heavy armor -- I'm pretty sure they just laughed at it and kept on their merry way.

His furs seem to be growing back in, so that's great! Hopefully his tail will be lush and plush again soon.

And I also needed to update on the poop scoop (Only TMI if you don't have cats. We cat people talk poop, right?). Everyone's poop was horrible, but no tests showed anything, all fecals came back clear, and even the bloodwork was fabulous. A mysterious poop problem! So they all got a round of Panacur (much to Pimp's dismay; he hates any medicine), and all seems to be looking better. Paws crossed it stays that way!

So basically, Phantom brought in fleas and some poop issue that spread. Adopt shelter cats! ;)

Three Cats Thursday: Moo's Box Overflow, Phantom's Litterhead & Pimp's Snout Close-Up!

Happy Three Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! (Writing that is going to take some getting used to!) Today we have a whole buffet of shenanigans.

First stop, is Moo's newest box. I bought a box that happened to come with a new pair of running shoes in it. Once we got those things out of there, the box was able to be put to use for the reason I clearly got it... for Moo to squish in.

And this was no small effort. As you can see, I may have miscalculated Moo's "shoe size" -- there is just a little bit of overflow...

What? It's comfy to me!
Mom! Maybe I'm a "wide" shoe?
And then we have Phantom. Bless his little heart. He's so special.

When he goes in the litter box, he really makes a big deal out of making sure everything is thoroughly covered. It's an exaggeration, really. I'll stand above him and just say over and over again: "Phantom, that's enough. That's enough, Phantom. You did good, Phantom..." but he insists on continuing to play in the box.

And every single time, he walks out looking like this:

Litterhead. And paws. And tail.
Pimp, in his dear old age, has taken to completely hunting Phantom! I have no idea what started this, but Pimpy literally goes after him with such a determined face and just chases him around with serial-killer determination in his eyes. He's become a crazy old man!

SMOOCH!
But most of the time, this is what he looks like... My sweet bag of bones. <3 comment-3--="" nbsp="">

Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday: The Battle of the Not-Box and Pimp's Vet Update

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! This week there was a bit of a scuffle of the much-coveted not-box, and Pimpy went to the vet (again) because we still haven't figured out exactly what is wrong with his poop.

First up, The Battle of the Not-Box, one sure to go down in history. It was an epic, lazy battle, with both Moo and Phantom refusing to give up ground. After several slow swats and a few low grumbles, a truce was finally reached. Thank goodness, because I would have hate to have seen the not-box in ruins after any more serious of a battle!

Here's a photo play-by-play of the battle.

The Battle of the Not-Box.
So, that happened. It wasn't really a real battle, it just sounded fun to make it one. It was lazy enough where I sat there taking pictures, and the boys just came to the conclusion that they needed to share. We're making progress!

Now on to the saga of Pimp's poop (no shortage of drama here this week!). It's still not right, so we went to the vet again last weekend. We have some super dewormer to give him and she gave him a B12 shot. Either of those could work, so I'm keeping an eye. He's also going to go get an ultrasound soon, so that we can just see everything that's going on in there. She is not saying there is anything more serious, but we should look since he's an old man and poop tells you when something isn't right.

Meanwhile, this is Pimp's favorite spot lately. On the IKEA furniture thing behind the couch, on the cat mat I put there. He'd been sitting there, so I put a bed there... and voila! Best. Spot. Ever.

Have a great week, everyone!

Thanks for the bed here, mom! It's the best!

Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday: The Boys Making HUGE Progress!

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! We've been going very slowly around here trying to get Moo to like Phantom and everyone to get along better, and this week we had some huge breakthroughs!

This weekend was the first days I left everyone out in general population 24/7 without closing a door to separate Pimp and Moo from Phantom when I left the house. I was doing that just to be super careful so I didn't come home to some crazy situation.

So we tried this since seems seemed to be going better... and everyone was great!

We were nice enough to leave a corner for our mom. We're thoughtful kitties.
Can you believe it? Everyone on the bed at the same time! No cuddling, but let's not push it, OK? This was huge!

Later that day, I went and lied on the bed and two of the boys came right over to lie with me. And this happened...

We have to always be in contact in some way to make sure she's safe!
That one was so exciting that I went and posted it right to Facebook, so you may have already seen it. But I had to share here for everyone else too!

And then, yesterday, I caught this...

Sniff, sniff... Up close #phantomwatch!
I don't know about you, but that's dangerously close to a smooch. Moo better watch it or his mean-boy reputation is going to go away!

Two Cats (and a Phantom) Tuesday: #PhantomWatch Has Commenced - With Video

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! This week the boys got to meet Phantom for real (aside from Moo just hissing through a crack in the door when I go in and out of the bedroom), and Moo was none too happy about it.

Poor Moo. He gets so nervous and anxious. He doesn't really like anyone but me and Pimp. Anything else just totally disrupts his little world.

Phantom is the latest intruder into Moo's neat, calm, safe Beach House Bubble. So that means he must keep a close eye on him!

He's not just watching though. This is different than it was with Pea. Moo is growling and doing the helicopter ears and just all around so much more unhappy about the situation.

I really hope he chills out. I have Feliway plugged into every room and am getting Spirit Essences to drop in his water. He's just such a 'fraidy cat!

And to make this worse, Phantom has NO fear and just walks right up to me all happy-go-lucky and adorably sweet like, "Hi! I'm Phantom! Wanna play? Doyadoyadoya?!?"

And then Moo hisses at him.

Paws crossed we can be at a more peaceful place soon.

P.S. Pimp and Moo had their follow-up vet visit on Saturday, and it was all great news! Moo's glucose levels are back to normal (whew, no diabetes!) and Pimp's two ear infections are all cleared up! Yeah!

Two Cats (and a Phantom) Tuesday: The Squeaky Mousie and Cat Trap Blankie

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! Today Pimp and Moo are "trapped" on the couch... and Phantom is making it so no one is ever going to get any sleep around here.

Have you all ever tried to trap your kitties somewhere? I bet you have!

Pimp and Moo love to sleep on the couch (and of course they are totally allowed), but I am just not a big fan of having to vacuum it every day just so I can sit on it. And so I designed this handy, never-fail cat trap.

Snug as to cats on a trap.
It's called a blanket.

I'm sure you've used this tactic before. Boxes also work very well for the same purpose. You put a box or a blanket down, and the cat will appear on it within minutes. Tada! It's like it was a trap. :)

Zzzzzzz...
And now here's the silly boy... Phantom loves to play! He is a crazy nut! He just had endless energy, and so I try to get stuff to keep him busy.

When I saw this squeaky mouse at the story, I just knew he'd love it. And so I bought it for him -- and now all I hear is squeak squeak squeak all the time.

But how could I care about that? Just look how happy it makes him!

Two Cats (and a Phantom) Tuesday: We ALL Went to the Vet

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! It's been a busy week over here -- everyone went to the vet!

Let's go down the list with the reports for each. Some did better than others. Everyone but Phantom has a follow-up visit scheduled. Sigh.

Pimp

We're going to that place, aren't we mom?
Pimp is hyperthyroid, you all know. He also has been pooping kind of mucus-y (not too icky, just slick -- we talk poop here, OK?). Anywhos. The vet said his heart rate is elevated, which means his thyroid levels are probably spiked. This is likely because that stinker gets into Moo's food all the time for a bite or two -- no matter how close I think I'm watching!

She is running the tests and we'll know for sure tomorrow what his levels are, but she thinks they will come back high because of the heart rate. So I need to really watch what he eats, and if they don't get back down to normal like they have been (the y/d food has been great!), then we might need to go the medication route.

As for the poop, I'm keeping an eye on it. She thinks maybe he ate something or it could be the food.

Pimp also has a mild ear infection in each ear. How in the world did I not know this?!? I feel like a horrible mom. But he has showed NO signs. No shaking his head, itching, scratching, acting like it hurts when I pet him, head tilts, nothing she said would be a sign. So he has ear drops twice a day now. Joy. We're heading back February 1 for a follow-up.

Moo

I do not like being at the vet!
Moo actually lost weight, so we started out with good news there! But then the vet called later that night and told me his glucose levels were high. This could mean two things: Beginning of diabetes or that he was very, very stressed.

Cats glucose spikes when they are nervous up to about 220, she said, is an acceptable stressed range. Moo's were at 248 (I think). He has always been high at the vet, but that is higher than normal. She really does not think it's diabetes, but he's headed back when Pimp goes to retest.

Phantom

Phantom went to see a specialist for his special leg. He walks planted on his calf basically on his back left leg. Like from the knee down is flat on the floor. He went to see our vet, and he recommended a specialist. See how he struts in the video up there?

The doctor took an x-ray and had probably the best report we could hope for. She thinks it's from an old muscle tear or trauma... and it might actually just heal on its own! She says it is not nerve damage (like the shelter thought) and not an Achilles tendon injury (like the vet thought it might be), but a muscle thing. And since muscles do heal, it may very well get better.

Worst case scenario, he'll just always walk with swagger. Best case scenario, it heals and he walks normal! Either way, it causes him no pain, he doesn't need to be restricted and it won't get any worse. Great!

So that's the update. Stay tuned tomorrow for another update!

Two Cats (and Phantom) Tuesday: Seat and Sink's Taken

Happy Two Cats and a Phantom Tuesday, Cuteheads! Foster man Phantom is going to share this day while he's here, because Lord knows I have taken enough pictures of him already to take up two weeks of posts all by himself already!

Yesterday was Moo's Gotcha Day, so we cuddled a lot. Even Pimp seemed to tolerate him a little bit for his big day...

Sea'ts taken... One cushion per cat. No cushions left for human.
And now, reporting to you from the Cutest Spare Bathroom in the World, it's Phantom! Gah, this kitty is amazing. He is the most loveable thing. I have decided his middle name is Noodle, because he is like a wet noodle. He just flops all over the place and contorts in all kinds of ways when you hold him to get the maximum amount of petting and rubs. It's like he's missing bones or something! He is so, so trusting.

In case you haven't put two and two together yet, this picture should clear up why his name is Phantom...
The Phaaaaaaantom of the Meowpera!
This sink is a hotspot. Cats love it's dated splendor, apparently.* Interior designers they are not.
HALP! This lady is going to squish me with smooches!

*Disclaimer: I rent. Do not blame me for the sea shell sinks, circa 1970-whatever.

Today is Moo's Gotcha Day!

Happy Gotcha Day, Moo! On January 13, 2009 our world was changed forever, because Moo officially became a part of our family!

After showing up on my back porch and camping out for a couple weeks, Moo managed to convince the stubborn lady that he picked to be his new mom (Me? Stubborn about admitting a cat is part of the family?! I have no idea why anyone would think that! Hehe.) that he was ours and we were his.

You can read all about Moo's Gotcha Story on the original post I wrote about it five whole years ago here: Moo: The Newest Member of My Family!

Moo started out as a scrawny, dirty cat outside begging for attention, and now he's a fat, shiny inside cat... still begging for attention!

Moo before. Skinny and dirty. Just look at that brown chin and dirty chest furs!
Moo now. He's, um, "filled out" quite a bit and he cleans up pretty well!
HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, MOO!
