The Most Beautiful Thing You'll Read Today

I am an Animal Rescuer.

I will never bring about world peace.

I'm not a brain surgeon and I'll never transplant an organ to save a life....

I don't have the ear of a powerful politician or world power.

I can't end world hunger.

I'm not a celebrity, and God knows I'm not glamorous!

I'm not looked up to by millions around the world. Very few people even recognize my name.

I'll never win the Nobel prize.

I'll never save the rain forest or end global warming.

There are a lot of things that I'll never do or become.

But today I placed a cat!

It was a small, scared, bundle of flesh and bones that was dropped off in a shelter by unfeeling people that didn't care what happened to it, but yet who were responsible for it even having existence in the first place.

I found it a home.

It now has contentment and an abundance of love. A warm place to sleep and plenty to eat. A child has a warm fuzzy new friend who will give them unquestioning devotion and teach them about responsibility and love.

No, I'm not a rocket scientist but today I saved one of God's precious creatures. Today, I made a difference!

I am an Animal Rescuer.

My job is to assist God's creatures.

I was born with the need to fulfill their needs.

I take in new family members without plan, thought or selection.

I have bought dog and cat food with my last dime.

I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.

I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.

I have fallen in love a thousand times

and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body.

I have Animal Friends and friends who have Animal Friends.

I don't often use the word "pet."

I notice those lost at the road side

and my heart aches.

I will hand raise a field mouse

and make friends with a vulture.

I know of no creature unworthy of my time.

I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven.

But I believe there are!

Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind?

We may be master of the animals,

but the animals have mastered themselves.

Something people still haven't learned.

War and abuse make me hurt for the world,

but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for humankind.

We are a quiet but determined army.

And making a difference every day.

There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan.

Nothing more rewarding than saving a life.

No higher recognition than watching them thrive.

There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play

who only days ago, was too weak to eat.

I am an Animal Rescuer.

Note from Cute: I got this in an email from a friend who works with Animal Aid, and I admit to tearing up as I read it. You know, I bet some people think I'm crazy, or just don't really get how anyone would go so out of their way to help one animal like many of us do, but WE know it's worth it. We know it's important.

Please share this with your friends who work with rescues or just your animal-loving friends in general. I know I'm glad my friend shared it with me, and I hope others get to read it, too, just to see how beautiful all their efforts really are.

Now if that isn't cute, I don't know what is... :)

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this! It is absolutely amazing!

  2. Thanks for this - I reposted on Facebook. Beautiful!

  3. Animal rescuers are a kitty's best friend, and we honor them daily. I hope they feel the positive energy we send their way... actually I think they do!

  4. What a wonderful and moving "memoir". Without such special people, we've be in even more trouble than we are. God bless them all!

  5. *sniffle*

I can't wait to get home to post this on FB. It's going to all my friends w/Animal Friends too.

  6. “Saving just one animal won’t change the world, but it surely will change the world for
    that one animal.”

    -Richard C. Call

  7. So beautiful and true. I'm reposting on Face Book, my kitties blog, and sending to all my friends. Thank you for posting

  8. Absolutely beautiful! And, no many don't get it but those of us whose hearts have little footprints on them get it. God has given us all a special gift each & every time those footprints walk across our hearts!

    One of my favorite quotes:
"If there are no dogs or cats in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." --

  10. This made my heart warm, my eyes tear. May GOD always bless you for all that you do everyday !!

  11. Oh my gosh! So beautiful! Sometimes as animal rescuers you feel alone and often judged for the concern you show for animals. They are truly God's special creatures! Thank you for sharing!

  20. WONDERFUL! I hope God has a special place in Heaven for all the wonderful critters! PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR CATS!

  21. That is so wonderful and Oh so true. I just wish that I could find homes for more of the homeless animals. Dorian, we do appreciate all that you do. This was just super.

  22. Pete! I forgot about Pete!

  23. Posted it on Facebook, my animal group on yahoo and the forums on Find A Grave. Beautiful, simply beautiful!

  24. That is the most beautiful thing I've read today. Bless you and bless your friend who is in the rescue business.

  25. this poem moved me very much. Is the "using my last dime to feed him" a metafor in the poem or could they use monetary help in caring and feeding. If rhis is so I want to donate to this cat specifically.
My email is : If needed , mail me a place to donate to.

  26. This is soo lovely and sad at the same time. I think animal rescuers shouild get Nobel prizes - I think they should be looked up to - I can;t be a resucuer - I am a live in carer for my Mum but I donate all I can to local (Australia) and International (IFAW) that I can - I am horrified at the lack of mercy and care that people nowadays have towards animals - it is indication of the way the world is going

  27. this poem moved me very much. Is the "using my last dime to feed him" a metafor in the poem or could they use monetary help in caring and feeding. If rhis is so I want to donate to this cat specifically.

  28. Posted it on Facebook, my animal group on yahoo and the forums on Find A Grave. Beautiful, simply beautiful!

  29. So beautiful Dorian.  Will repost and this is so touching.  Thank you for your boys, and Little Meow.

  30. legally i`m a pet owner, but to me i own no pet for my cat is my friend. my sidekick, partner in crime. she has right`s in my house and if visitors don`t like they can stay away. no she doesn`t run rampant but few restrictions. my hope is when i die God will let me stay in Heaven`s stables with my critter friends

  31. We who rescue DO understand, & you're right, it is beautiful. I don't know how many are aware of it, but there are animals in Heaven, according to the Bible. I'm Russian Orthodox Catholic, & we have special prayers & days for animals. I've been to their blessings, their healings, & their funerals. The strays in the area know they can always get food & shelter from our monks. Why =wouldn't= God treasure their innocent souls, Who created them, after all?

    Just saying....

  32. That was beautiful. OMG I'm going to cry 😖.i had adopted many pets ,including my big precious dog "Andy" who i saved from the pound.I hope to be a veterinarian when I grow up. I just love animals and that petting toad video was so cute. 😍💕
