10 Years Later, Cute Remembers

Ten years ago, me and Pimp were just waking up. We were living in Gainesville, Florida, and I was still in college. Pimp was only two years old.

The phone rang, which was strange for that hour. It was my mom telling me to turn on the TV.

I think that's how most people found out. Someone told them to turn on the TV.

And so I watched, glued, like everyone else. I think I may have gone into some kind of daze. I can't believe I don't remember more exact details about how I was feeling, the rest of my day or the days to come.

I know the football game that weekend was postponed. No way anyone was tailgaiting or celebrating. I'm sure classes were cancelled. I'm sure I went to work. I'm sure it was all we talked about.

I bought a 2-CD tribute set and listened to it basically on repeat. I don't know why.

Seems like there's a lot I don't know about that time. I can only imagine what it was like for people who were actually there and people who lost loved ones.

And so, today and every other day, we remember.

  5. I was a little puppy here in NJ right across from NYC when it happened and I remember all the humans being sad and worrying about what might happen next...

  6. I was driving at the time. I got stuck in traffic and put the local news station on the radio, hoping for a traffic report. But instead, they broke in with live coverage of what they thought was an accidental crash of a light plane into the WTC. The live coverage of that was in progress when the second plane hit. I heard that live on the air. Then everyone knew it was intentional, not an accident. We didn't know the day's tragedies were only just beginning.

  8. It was a terrible and sad day. We need to try to remember some of the good things like a lot of people did survive and a lot of people saved other people.

  9. I was at work, and about 2 hours after the first plane went into the WTC we were all sent home. By "all" I mean every worker in the city. It was the only time I've ever been scared riding the subway.

But I have to post on a lighter note that Pimp looks like he wants to shred you - "WHY has the human put this undignified decoration on my head?"
