Baby Orphaned Bat - Lil' Drac

Lil' Drac is a baby fruit bat that was abandoned by his mother and is now being hand-fed and raised at Bat World Sanctuary.

I have to be honest, I had no idea this video would be so adorable. I've seen it going around and I haven't watched it yet, but today I did -- and I'm so glad! Lil' Drac is one of the cutest, sweetest little critters I've ever seen. Wait till you see him rock...

And the people at Bat World Sanctuary as so gentle and loving with him. I hope he grows up big and strong! (And I hope they post updates!)

Friends, do please support Bat World Sanctuary. They are doing important work educating people about these amazing little creatures.

  10. Oh yeah, fruit bats are really charming creatures. Their fox-like faces make them so easy to find adorable! They are also so important in the food chain!

  11. Precious!  Such a tiny wee bit of a thing that it's a wonder that it was even found.  Such caring - soooo much smaller even than a small baby kitten.

  13. Oh deal lord what an absolutely adorable little guy.  Every creature is precious, no matter how ugly some may think they are.  Personally, I think this little one is too cute for words.

  14. I don't know why, but this video made me cry like a little girl! Perhaps it was the music? I don't particularly like bats (don't find them cute), but the way these people care for them and help them grow up big and strong is just gorgeous. We need more people like that in the world. Good job Bat World!

  15. I did the same thing, Charlotte! I think the video was just so beautiful, but the most beautiful part was how gentle and caring they are with him. And all the the little things I would never know, like how a Qtip is like a mother's tongue or that they need to be brushed. I just loved the whole thing. :)

  17. The publicist loves bats. They are vital to our ecosystem. A bat will eat up to 4 times its weight in bugs (mostly mosquitoes) every day! At least the ones we have here do. Go bats!

  20. I was fine until the rocking.  That was so adorable, I welled up a little.  So cute, the rocking, lol.

  21. Awwww, gees, that was sweet.  And even more so is how the person caring for him is so gentle and kind to wait for him to rock himself like that. Dang--now I want a little baby bat to take care of . :)

I went to a wildlife rehabilitation center a long time ago while it was baby squirrel season. After feeding each baby squirrel, they needed to be "watered". That is where the mother stimulates the baby's system to go potty--and that is what they are doing when they gently rub his tummy with the cloth and then the Q-tip.

What a sweet little guy--I hope they show him all grown up too!
