When I close my eyes and think of the most perfect place in the world, I am surrounded by purring, happy cats. They are all healthy, they are all well-fed, and they all have homes and families to love and spoil them.
None of them are out on the street, fending for morsels or scraps, and none of them are in cages, waiting as the days pass for the lucky day when someone doesn't pass them by and they get a forever home.
This is almost like heaven to me... They just all need homes! (Picture of me passing out treats at Animal Aid in Boca Raton, FL by Sonju Photography.)
In my heaven, cats like Knight, my absolute favorite cat at Cats Exclusive, don't have to stay in a cage by themselves just because they have urine crystals and it's the only way to be sure he only eats his special food to make sure he stays healthy. No, if I had my dream, Knight would have an entire home to lounge around and play in, a whole family to show off his loving, incredibly cuddly personality -- and it wouldn't matter that he's black and "boring" or that he's special needs. He'd be perfect in their eyes.
In my heaven, best friends like Lenox and Diamond wouldn't have to hop from foster home to foster home, never settling and always readjusting. Lenox is completely blind and Diamond, who only has one eye himself, is his seeing-eye friend. They are very, very special and obviously need a special home. These two are currently living with a friend of a friend, but she can't keep them forever, and they deserve a permanent place to get to know and get the love from.
In my heaven, all pets would be spayed and neutered, so there wouldn't be such a huge number of dogs and cats waiting to be adopted. There wouldn't be any homes or apartments that don't allow pets (No pets, no deal, if you ask me!). Every cat would have their own personal catnip garden and every dog would have a backyard full of hidden bones.
In my heaven, everyone loves animals and treats them with respect. There are no horror stories of animal abuse or neglect.
In my heaven, everyone knows just how much better pets can make our lives, and they tell all their friends, who tell their friends, who tell their friends... and before we know it, everyone has a fluffy kitty or a playful doggie waiting for them at home everyday.
Let's make today one day closer to my heaven. Today is Petfinder.com's 15th birthday, and to celebrate, they're making today Adopt the Internet Day. The goal is to spread the word about adoption and hopefully inspire some people to give homes to the thousands of pets waiting patiently for someone to love them.
Won't you help me spread the word? Let's make our world a little slice of heaven today!
You've made Rumblemum cry. Your heaven is very much like her heaven, and she wishes so much happiness for the poor little kitties.
ReplyDeletethis was beautiful!! Thanks for helping to spread the word! We did too but not nearly as beautifully or creatively as you did!

Amen. I like your heaven.
ReplyDeleteLovely heaven and mine is also like that too, with the exception that all puppies and mistreated dogs are there too. I have 2 cats, both rescues, one we took from the streets and certain death. We named him Kenny and he is a handful but he has become king of our house. =^;;^=
ReplyDeleteEverything helps, Caren! Thanks for posting, too. Going to check your's out in a few!
ReplyDeleteIn my heaven, no Rumblemums cry... ;) Also there are plenty of tunas for the kitties!
ReplyDeleteI too see heaven like this. Dorian, you brought tears to my eyes this morning.
ReplyDeletei luvs your heaven - let's work together to make it happen! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a breat bunch of anipals - I sure hope they can find forever homes soon.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely my heaven too. I so wish I could do more to find homes for more cats. At least those kitties with you in the picture get to be out of cages. Super post. Take care.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a perfect place. Our kitty, Fluff, just went to cat heaven 2 weeks ago because of kidney problems and I look forward to the day that I am reunited with her, and Vinny, our sweet boy who left us last summer.
ReplyDeleteThis is also my heaven. I have so many cats waiting for me when I get there. Nicely done Dorian!!
ReplyDeleteAll of us here agree with you
ReplyDeleteSounds like my heaven, too! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michelle. This subject really means a lot to me!
ReplyDeleteIt would be the most beautiful place in the world. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd all the goats have happy farms, too! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gret!
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Mario! I hope someone adopts Knight just so I can stop talking about how bad I want him to find a home... Hehe. I'll keep bringing him up until someone does! :)
ReplyDeleteYup, Marg. Cats Exclusive and Animal Aid are both most just cats that get to hang out free. Knight is only in a cage to be sure that he only eats his food, and not the regular food they leave out. Cats Exclusive is one of the most caring, cleanest, best cat shelters I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteAw, sorry to hear about Fluff, Katie. She'll be there waiting for you, for sure. {{hugs}}
ReplyDelete:) It will happen one day!
ReplyDeleteYes, all the animals in my heaven are spoiled and loved! It's a great place.
ReplyDeleteYour heaven is beautiful. I love it there.
ReplyDeleteLove your heaven, what a beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteWow. You and I share the same heaven. :3
ReplyDeleteYour heaven should be required reading my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till it's a reality! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cate!
ReplyDeleteWe can share. And everyone else is invited, too! We'll have a big party!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brian. The more the merrier in my heaven. :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to read this post, it made my day. I pray for a good home for Lenox and Diamond and wish it could be my home.....Thank you for all you do for the kitties, I look forward to turn on my computer every day because of you.
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you so much. Your comment made my night. :) I will keep at it as long as there are kitties to help!
ReplyDeleteI'm in puddles!! A wonderful post - from your keyboard to God's ear, hon! So glad to see AID promoted, too - let's see what we can do to make your vision of heaven a reality!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful......
ReplyDeleteYes! I love that. Rally the troops! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cat. :)
ReplyDeleteYou better dry off! No soggy kitties around here. ;) And, yes, let's do it!
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteOne of my cats is black and sure is not boring!
ReplyDeleteYears ago i saw her as a street cat. We took her to a vet and we rescued her.Now she is well fed and a healthy cat!
Hope this made it a step closer to heaven!
Way to make a girl cry over her coffee cup ;) I can't even go to our local humane society without crying when I see the kitties in the cages wanting a home. The lady there told me, "but we have a "no kill" policy!" and I said, "I know, but they all want homes . . . wahhhhh"
ReplyDeleteI love black kitties, I don't think they are boring at all! I always wanted one to name "Spock", it seemed appropriate for some reason.
My kitty is gold, her name is Daphne. I rescued her when she came down my driveway, ready to deliver five kitties that she had in my garage. I raised them all, brought them to a reputable pet store, and kept her. She's awesome. And I did get her spayed asap after the kittens were gone.
WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A BIG FARM AND GIVES HOMES TO ALL THE HOMELESS ANIMALS,
ReplyDeleteTHEY WOULD HAVE LOTS OF ROMM TO PLAY AND RUN AND BE WELL FED AND HEALTHU.
black cats are gorgeous...I hope someone special gives him a home...
ReplyDeleteso cute i hope that every cat fond a familly hwo love 's
