She and her mom, Christie, live at the Hogle Zoo in Utah, and this is her first mud bath.
Some fun elephant facts: Baby has a lot of growing to do... her mom weighs 7,900 pounds! Also, she carried her for an incredible 22 months. That's a long time! I guess something this cute is worth the wait!
Awww she is a happy baby!!! how cute!!
ReplyDeleteMay be a mite large for the babies we are used to, but she is a cute one. Don't think I would want to cuddle her on my lap though.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin ......
I don't know anything about the Hogle zoo but Seattle's Woodland Park zoo has artifically impregnated their female elephant Chai over 70 times in efforts to get her pregnant again. Her last baby died of herpes and she carries this virus herself but baby elephants are huge money-makers for zoos, so they keep trying. Sadly, the elephants at the zoo could go to The Elephant Sanctuary and never endure another insemination but politics in Seattle have kept the elephants imprisoned in very small quarters. The space they live in is like a human permanantly living in a 5 foot room, which is why foot diseases are the number one killer of captive elephants who don't have space to roam. So there's some truth behind your "cute" today...
ReplyDeleteI support The Elephant Sanctuary and the wonderful girls living there in the fields of freedom. Their eldest girl, Shirley, is my most favorite, who was crippled years ago and still made to perform in the circus. I think that more people need to know the truth about all wild animals held in captivity, but some people will always look away because they are 'just animals.' They are fools!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwh! What an adorable fun-loving little person (at 251 lbs.!) and she's having the time of her life with her mom. Such a loving relationship and no doubt mom has forgotten the 22 mos. already. Beautiful to see.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pip ! Just love her!
