Moo's MOOstache for Hairball Awareness Day - Plus a FURminator Giveaway!

A little while ago, I got asked to do something silly. To celebrate and raise awareness for National Hairball Awareness day, I was asked if I would take a picture of my cats with a fur mustache. The crazy folks at FURminator always come up with something silly for this day, so I expected no less.

Sure, I said! Pimp and Moo are always up for a silly photo op , so we're in!

A week or so later, a cardboard mustache on a stick arrived. My instructions were to use the FURminator (we got a few of those, too!) to brush the kitties, then somehow apply their fur to the mustache, hold it up in front of their face (it was attached to the stick) and take a picture. Easy, right?

OK...

You try sticking something in front of your cats face and see if they don't smell it, bite it, swat it, move to get away from it, or all of the above.

Anyway, after much trying to distract the cats from looking at the mustache and catching them at just the right moment, we ended up with this gem.

This is a MOOstache!

Yes, he's wearing a sombrero. We happened to have one (of course we had one!), so I figured it would match the mustache nicely. It's always good to accessorize.

Anywhos, this was so silly (a bunch of other bloggers did it, too!) that PEOPLEpets ran a slideshow of all of our pictures even!

Everyone, Meet Ted! - Hairball Awareness Day

Who is Ted, you all are wondering? Well, Ted is Moo's new friend. I guess you could say he's maybe kind of his brother. Well, he is made out of Moo anyway...

You see, today is National Hairball Awareness Day (Don't worry, Ted is NOT a hairball!) and the Cute is celebrating!

First, we used our FURminator to collect some furs.

Can you tell who's furs these are? Kind of cow-spotted, even in the bag, huh?

Then, we put the furs to fun use and made a Hairball Creature! Lots of other blogs are doing this today, so we hope ours isn't too boring...

I asked Moo what he wanted, and he said TUNA, so we made a tuna.

We know tunas don't have fur, sillies, but that's what Moo wanted at the time. You try and argue with Moo... It doesn't work.

And tada! Heeeere's Ted!

Moo thought maybe he'd try and nom on a piece of Ted, but I told him that was silly and put Ted's fur back together.

Ted needed an eyeball, don't you think. Now he's perfect!

Pimp thinks we're silly, but me and Moo had fun with Ted!

FURminator Tips on Preventing Hairballs in Cats

Fuzzballs, cat scratches and dirty litter boxes may be top complaints from cat parents, but paws down, hairballs are among the worst of the worst. With peak shedding season underway, our cats are in full swing when it comes to grooming themselves, which means an increase in hairballs (since hairballs are caused when the cat grooms itself).

Friday, April 24 is National Hairball Awareness Day, and to help both cat and parents alike, below are some tips on how to prevent hairballs in cats:

1. Regular Grooming: Hairballs occur when cats over groom. To help cats look and feel their best, it’s essential to regularly brush them. The FURminator deShedding Tool for Cats is recommended by vets and nominated by Tufts University School of Veterinarian Medicine as the number one product to reduce hairballs in cats. 4. Consult Your Vet: If you believe your cat has chronic hairball problems, ask your veterinarian to recommend a laxative supplement to help prevent ingested hairs from forming hairballs.
