Two Cats Tuesday: Moo's Story

Happy Two Cats Tuesday, Cuteheads! Last week I shared Pimp's story, and today it's Moo's turn to be in the spotlight.

I tell myself (and Moo) every single day (OK, several times a day) how lucky I am to have him. You see, I wasn't planning on a Moo. A Moo wasn't even an option -- "Pimp is an only child," I said more times that I'd even try and count. Until one day, this cow-spotted cat showed up at my back porch sliding door...

Oh, hai. I can haz food? And loves? And a home?

Well, food and love he could have; that was a no-brainer. But Pimp was an only child, so Moo (there was no other name I could have named him!) would have to settle for being an outside visitor kitty.

But not your average outside kitty! Spoiled Moo had his own chair, with his own towel and everything... and he loved it.

I fed him every morning and every night. And on weekends, I left the sliding glass door open with just the screen there so I could talk to him out there and he could talk to me. He rarely left the porch. It's like he made himself right at home!

When Christmas came about two weeks later, I gave Moo and Pimp matching boxes to hang out it (Moo loved boxes even back then!)...

We are box kitties! Even if one of us is outside...

And Moo got Christmas presents, too! Here he is with his first toy from me -- a catnip poof!

Over those weeks, Moo was making his case for becoming an inside kitty, and my "single cat" resolve was clearly melting. I would spend hours outside with him, sharing his chair and just reading or using my laptop. And Moo would spend hours just staring in...

I am on the OUTSIDE of the window, but the inside ledge looks so much more comfy...

In in in, please!!!

Until finally, about three weeks later, I caved. Moo was coming in and getting a real forever home! And that, Cuteheads, was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. Maybe even the best. He's that special.

Since then, he's turned into the biggest love. He never leaves my side, follows me around, constantly wants to be held, give kisses, nosetaps and head butts. He sleeps on my pillow and purrs louder than a motorcycle.

I have no idea what he was doing outside (the vet said he was probably a little over a year old when I took him in, and clearly he was friendly), but I can only guess someone either left him behind when they moved or dumped him because they couldn't care for him anymore.

Either way, it turned out to be a blessing for both of us. He has me for a mommy and I have him for a Moo! Oh, and he also has Pimp for a brother... He's the only kitty in the world lucky enough to say that!

Moo and Pimp, staring out at Moo's porch... which he doesn't need anymore! :)

So all I can say is that things don't always happen as you plan them, but sometimes that's OK. Go with your heart and not your head, and if you're lucky enough, you'll end up as happy as I did.

Like, I tell him all the time... I LOVE MOO!

  1. He saw that beacon in the sky that said, "This is the home of the Cute" and found his way there. So glad you found each other!

  7. Dorian, what a WONDERFUL story! I loved it! The video of Moo with his first toy is so lovely! I like when he puts it outside the box and then goes inside the box to "rediscover" it again! tehe!

And the photos! too much! I can't believe you held out for so many weeks! I love that he had his own chair and didn't stray. He was like "if i hang out long enough she will realize I am supposed to be an INDOOR cat!".

I wish my boys got along so well. They basically ignore each other. Unless they are fighting which thankfully doesn't happen often. But no love there!

Dorian, was Moo fixed when you found him? Wonder if he was someone's pet....lucky he foun dy ou!

  8. Aw, thanks for the nice words, Tamar!

I can't believe I held out so long either. If I knew how happy we'd all be, I definitely would have brought him in sooner. It really took FOREVER for him and Pimp to get along, and even now they each kind of have their own space. A cuddly moment is very rare... but they get along OK.

Moo wasn't fixed when I took him in, but he was VERY friendly, which is why I think someone had him as a pet and dumped him. But since he wasn't fixed, I'm not sure how well he was cared for. But he definitely wasn't feral or out on his own for that first year of his life I don't think.

I think he just knew the right house to hang out at, and that I'd eventually give in. :)

  10. That was a great story, and just proof that kitties know how to get what they want. Because clearly Moo wanted to live with you and Pimp, so he just went out and did it!

  11. That really is a wonderful story. We are so glad Moo found you and Pimp. A cat is like a potato chip, you can't have just one. Look at me, I have 18 and love everyone of them. They are all so special and Moo looks like he is super special for you. They are all so different. Anyway, thanks so much for telling us the story of the two cats. That is really super.

  22. That’s a heartwarming story. I too have a rescue (Olive, pictured) that follows me, kisses and rubs, comes when called, and sleeps on my pillow; it is Heaven! It means so much to me that people like you love and care for the helpless endangered kitties. You will always be blessed. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

  23. Ha, Pimp a single cat ! And then came Moo. But not enough: then came another kitty (still sorry about your loss) and finally Phantom stole your heart. So happy you went each time with your heart and not your head. (So nice to read Moo'sstory again after all those years...) Love and purrs to y'all
