Three Cats Thursday: Let's Just Go Ahead and Make It Official... Welcome, Phantom!

Happy THREE Cats Thursday, Cuteheads! Yes, that's right... three cats.

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, PHANTOM!

Me and my third son, Phantom Noodle.

He's a silly boy, so he fits right in!
So there's that. I have three cats. Phantom has worked his way into all our hearts (even Moo's, although he'll never, ever admit it). We're looking forward to lots and lots of Three Cat Thursdays together!

Next week, make sure to come by on Thursday instead of Tuesday to catch up with the boys! All three of them!

A Day in the Life of the Baby Turtle My Mom Found

My mom found a baby turtle in the backyard a couple days ago. It was hiding under a garbage can, I think she said. So, like anyone in my animal-loving family would do, she set out to save her.

I was at work when I got a text that said "Look who I found" with this picture:

The tiny turtle minutes after being found. Just hanging out on a Tupperware lid.
Cute little thing, huh? They don't have a lake right behind their house, so however this brave turtle got there, it was quite a little trip!

A few minutes later, she texted me this picture...

Upgrade! Now the turtle has some mulch and some greens -- and the other side of the Tupperware!
At this point I asked if she was going to keep her or maybe take her to school with her as a class pet (my mom is a preschool teacher). She answered "Salmonella!" and I guess that meant she can't because the kids might get sick.

I have no idea why, but that inspired me to name the turtle E. coli, and that stuck. I was texting a friend at the time and he suggested that E. coli would probably like some more water. I relayed the message, and a few minutes later...

Even better! She upgraded from mulch to a rock and now has more water to play in.
E. coli, as you'll note, is also a gourmet turtle. She is not eating regular leaves... she is eating arugula!

E. coli decided to take a little dip in her new digs.
Silly turtle, we see you hiding under your arugula!
E. coli had a sleepover at their house, I guess, and the next morning she was in for a very exciting day. She was going to my mom's school after all -- but only for a day so the kids could see her. They were allowed to look, but not touch.

My mom said they just stared at E. coli for more than 15 minutes!
And after E. coli's big 24 hours, it was time to go to a place where she can grow up like she's supposed to and get big and strong -- the lake by my parent's house! This is a video of my mom letting her go. (Can you see where I get my squeaky talking-to-animals voice from?)

I hope E. coli had a good time with my mom. I know I had a good time getting all the updates, and it was all so cute that I just had to share with you all!

We Have a Birthday in the House!

Today is my mom's birthday, so me and Pimp decided to sing to her!

She's out of town at a conference, so we can't sing in person. This will just have to do! Everyone wish my mom a happy birthday with us! :)

Cat Loving and Licking the Baby

A little orange tabby lovin' is just the thing this baby needs to grow up big and strong and happy! And he's getting a big dose of it in this video... :)

This sweetheart of a cat loves his new brother!

More babies and pets, please.

Two Cats Tuesday: Pimp's Story

Happy Two Cats Tuesday, Cuteheads! Today (and next week), I decided to tell you the story behind Pimp and Moo. Some of you already know all about them, but if you don't, I wanted to share a little about the loves of my life with you.

Pimp this week, and Moo next Tuesday! Yay!

I got Pimp when I was in college. I had just moved out of the dorms, and for some reason me and the three other girls I lived with decided we wanted a kitten. Looking back, it was a little nuts... The apartment we lived in didn't allow pets, we hadn't decided who the kitten would really belong to -- and who would keep him when we moved out -- and we were college kids.

But, that said, it was the best decision of my life because that's how I got Pimp!

Would you just look at sweet baby Pimp?!

Once we decided we wanted a kitten, we started pouring over classifieds (I guess we didn't really know about shelters yet), and visited a few homes advertising free kittens. None of them were quite right, though...

Until we met one lady at a convenience store parking lot on the corner of two roads I'd never heard of before. I'm not sure why she wanted to meet us there, but what I am sure of is PIMP was in the cardboard box she had with her!

And he was ours from that second on. :)

Now we just had to name him... He was Tyson for a few days (don't know why), but it wasn't quite right. I think he had another name, too. Until one day it occurred to me that we were four girls and he was the only guy -- clearly he was a Pimp! And so he was.

Baby Pimp pimpin'.

I believe it was less than a year later that we got caught. The apartment complex put a note on our door telling us that we either had to get rid of the cat or be evicted. Nooooo!

I can't say for sure that the others wouldn't have kept him, but neither of my three roommates seemed to be volunteering to take responsibility. Were they going to just give him up? No way, no how, I said!

And so I decided that Pimp was more important than money, packed up my stuff and moved out on my own to a one-bedroom that allowed pets. I kept paying rent at the old place... and paid rent at the new place, too -- all while I was just a sophomore in college! I kept joking that I was paying as much as a mortgage.

But it was way worth it. I had a PIMP! ;)

Who wouldn't go broke for that precious face?

Eventually the extra room in the other apartment got rented out and I was off the hook for it, and me and Pimp started living happily ever after! Having him certainly didn't make life easy right around that time, but it was worth every penny, every second and every little bit of stress.

That was almost 11 years ago (Pimp's birthday is July 4, by the way), and every single day I am so happy to have him. He's my best little furry friend and the most expressive, caring little thing you'll ever meet.

Me and my son!

It was just the two of us until about a year and a half ago when Moo came into our lives... and that's a story for next Tuesday! Have a great day, everyone!

Love, me and Pimp

Man Rescues Daring Baby Duckies (a must see!)

All news should be like this! No more bad news -- just all brave baby ducky rescues all day.

This is officially one of my favorite news stories ever: A man noticed a mommy duck making her nest in his 2nd-story office ledge. She was cute to watch... and then the duckies hatched and couldn't hop down to try and get to the water.

He watched from his office as one of the babies leapt to the ground below (and made it, but only have scaring him by laying motionless for a few seconds). And then he knew what he had to do. He rushed downstairs and caught every single one of those baby ducks as they jumped down to their mommy duck below... All nine of them!

And then he and his coworkers ushered the mommy ducky and her babies safely down the street to the water -- blocks away!

You MUST watch the video of it happening! This is my "I love people" moment of the week. I love this man for helping these duckies!

Unfortunately, I couldn't embed the video, so you'll have to go to where I first saw it. Watch the entire baby ducky rescue here: http://youtu.be/VAqWC3Cpny8

Polar Bear Mommy and Baby

All together now: Awwwww...

Just look how they cuddle up together. If I was a baby polar bear, I'd do the same thing -- cuddle up as close to my nice, warm mommy as I can.

In Loving Memory: Gizmo (That Big Fat Girl)

I'm sure many of you noticed I didn't post any new "cutes" yesterday... We're back to our regularly scheduled flood of cuteness today, but before that, I wanted to take a couple minutes to tell you a little about one of the best cats to ever bless us humans with her presence.

It was a little bit of a rough day for me and the rest of the the Your Daily Cute family yesterday -- after 18 years of total love, it was time to make the hardest, most unselfish decision any pet-lover hates to make. Gizmo (which I'll call her for simplicity, but she had one of the longest list of nicknames a cat ever collected -- my personal go-to favorite being Big Fat Girl) was ready to go to the Rainbow Bridge, and out of pure love, it was up to us to help her get there easily.

It was the right decision, but that doesn't ever mean it's easy... We'll definitely miss her, but I hear there's unlimited treats and catnip toys there, so I know she's happy.

This pretty princess came into our lives when I was only 10, so basically she was like another sister. From the beginning, she adopted me as her favorite (not that she didn't have enough love to spread around to my parents and sister, but I always believed she loved me just a little more...). So cute!

One of the cutest things I looked forward to every day as I got a little older was waking up to get ready for school. As soon as my alarm would go off, Big Fatters (there's a theme here, no?) would dash up the stairs and stand by my door, staring at the door knob and waiting for me to emerge and give her some lovin'. Then she'd follow me around all morning or hang out on my bed until it was time to go.

Gizzy was also quite the adventurer. She was a lucky cat who owned a pretty nice backyard, with fences tall enough to protect her from the baddies out there. She could spend hours out there hunting, lounging in the sun, eating grass (bad Gizzy!) and generally just being happy. She was inside cat, but supervised adventures in the backyard were something she looked forward to every day.

Big Gizzy was also extremely partial to treats (which was cutely obvious by the pooch that swayed around a little when she walked). Any flavor will do, but in the past few years she'd been enjoying some cute little high-fiber treats (doctor's orders, yet delicious!).

It's Gizmo who me and my family credit for making us all the the way we are today. Whatever she did to flip our internal switches from people who have cats to "Crazy Cat People" I'll never know specifically, but she did... and now I feed every cat that walks by my car, to my front porch, back porch, office parking lot, random parking lot (shout out to the cat at Target!) and anywhere else you can think of.

When I went off to college, I missed having a cat around so much that I almost immediately adopted a son of my own (Pimp!). Since my sister has adopted two cats of her own, my parents have taken in another and there are many, many rescue cats and kittens that have found homes directly because of one of us Crazy Cat People.

When it comes to cats, Gizmo was the queen, and she'll always be in our hearts just like that. It'll be a little tough for a while whenever I go visit my parents without her around in the house -- she's always just been there. We were lucky enough to have her for 18 happy years, and no one could ask for more.

Tomorrow I'm running a marathon in Tampa, Florida, and I'll be wearing her little heart nametag from her collar on my necklace. Just figured she'd like to follow me around one last time... :)

Love you, Gizzy!

Moo is a Snob

This is my cat, Moo. If you don't know Moo's story, I saved him from the big, bad outside after he took up residence on my back porch for three weeks, slowly working his little paws into my heart.

Finally, I caved and brought his 8-pound cow-looking butt in. And this is the thanks I get -- I call him over, and he makes his grand entrance... and his unceremonious exit.

No, really, I love Moo. Every day I think of another reason why I'm glad I brought him in. If I had a bigger house, it'd be a farm in here.

Moo: The Newest Member of My Family!

Well, those of you that have been following know Moo the cat showed up on my porch a few weeks ago. I've been feeding him, petting him, loving him and worrying about him since then.

And he's been steadily working his little way into my little heart -- and it worked! As of last night, I brought him in and am the proud mommy of a Moo.

Now, I've been the proud mommy of a Pimp for nine years now, so naturally I'm a little worried about him adjusting, but I think it'll all work out OK. They seem to tolerate each other right off, so that's good. I know they'll be best friends real soon!

Check out their meeting in this quick clip and some pics below...

Aren't they just the cutest thing?

Sad News... the White House Cat Died

OK, so it's not technically a "cute" thing, but we did just want to pass along that the Bush's pet cat, India, died today.

India was 18 years old, and according to her bio, she loved to stay and inside and visit the White House Library. Her favorite book was If You Take a Mouse to the Movies by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond.

R.I.P. cute kitty!

Catching up with Michael Vick's Dogs...

Sports Illustrated did a little catching up with some of Michael Vick's pitbulls -- and I'm so happy for them! The story was awful; the man is even more awful... but it looks like a happy ending for some of the poor doggies!

Check out Michael Vick's dogs slideshow here!

(That image over there is just one of cute pics from it on sportsillustrated.com!)

Aww... Thanks to our Heroes

Found this and can't help but awwww at it.

Also, you can get a free "In Case of Fire or Emergency" Animals Inside! sticker from the ASPCA. I have one on my window, because God forbid something ever happened, I want someone to be Pimp's hero, too.

Thank you!

Pimp at Sundown

I got home from work today and found Pimp lounging on the couch in the perfect lighting! The sun was going down and coming in the sliding glass doors right on him. He looked like a little king!

So, naturally, I whipped out the camera and we had a little impromptu photo session. Drumroll please....

Grandma Eating Her Ice Cream Cone

It's family day at Your Daily Cute...

The past couple weekends have been big birthdays for the fam, and since I figured out how to make my camera record videos, I have some cute little moments to share.

The first is my grandma eating an ice cream cone. Admittedly, the last time she ate an ice cream cone around us it was MUCH funnier, so I was hoping for some dripping and general silliness. Not so much, really. But she is darn cute, and the ice cream was delicious.

This is us at the ice cream place for my mom's 50th birthday (grams is her mom). And the video is a little dark, but gimme a break; it was nighttime.
